The Evanton Community Trust is a charitable body which was set up in 2005 to undertake major local projects designed to develop new and improve or preserve existing community assets for the benefit of the community in and around Evanton in Ross-shire in the Highlands of Scotland.

The Trust is registered in Scotland as a charitable company and its vision is "to see a robust, inclusive and thriving community in Evanton where people are proud to work and live"

The Trust’s first project was to acquire and convert a brown-field site in the centre of the village into a Village Green with landscaping and planting. This is now a focal point for the centre of the village as well as an amenity for the local community.

More recently, the Trust has upgraded the footpaths from Lower Balconie and Kiltearn along the shore. The paths are now suitable for most abilities and the addition of seating and a picnic table along the way give you time to stop and admire the views and wildlife. There are interpretive panels along the route too to tell you a bit about the area. We have also produced a fold up map / guide to the network of paths - this will shortly be available to download here.

An underlying principle that informs all the Trust’s work is that of openness and transparency, presenting regular and clear information to its members and the community at large on all aspects of its work and activities, through local media, posters and leaflets as well as via web sites and social media outlets.

"Kiltearn 2020, The Church in the Parish"

Now available to purchase!

"Kiltearn 2020, The Church in the Parish" written by Catriona Fraser, published by Evanton Community Trust, tells the story of the Old Kirk in Evanton from the its earliest period  to modern times. On sale here now!

In 2017, Evanton Community Trust undertook a community project, investigating the Kiltearn Old Kirk, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Kiltearn Community Council, Archaeology Scotland and Clan Munro Association. Participants from the Kiltearn and the wider community, with the help and support of ARCH (Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands ) explored old documents and maps in libraries, archives and online. They recorded inscriptions and photographed all the gravestones in the old kirkyard, undertook a full photographic record of the kirk and did a standing building survey.  They also learnt about how to carry out family history searches. The group then produced a display of photographs and text which was exhibited in Dingwall library and in the Cornerstone Café in Evanton.

As a result of the new and fascinating information uncovered during this project a local author, Catriona Fraser was inspired to edit and revise her book, originally published in 2000, which explored the history of the Kiltearn Old Kirk.
